27th Nov. Despite the bad weather, there was a large turnout today for the Open Day at the Historic England excavation at the site of the Low Ham Roman Villa. A fascinating talk by Professor Roger Leech drew together the various reports of previous work on the site, aerial photos made since the first excavation in 1946. David Roberts, Historic England’s site director, then led a visit to the trenches explaining what had been discovered during this current excavation. The final trench visited was of the Bronze Age circular huts within an enclosure. A lot of new information was revealed today, and there will be a lot more to follow, once the analysis of all the findings is complete. Thanks Karen for keeping us informed.
